Experimental and computational studies of sonochemical assisted anchoring of carbon quantum dots on reduced graphene oxide sheets towards the photocatalytic activity

Herein, carbon quantum dots (CQDs) are anchored on reduced graphene oxide (rGO) sheets by sonochemical assisted method. The developed dots/reduced (CQDs/rGO) catalyst shows enhancement in the photocatalytic degradation of methylene blue and methyl orange under visible light compared to that individual CQDs rGO components. improved performance CQDs/rGO has been attributed efficient separation photogenerated charge carriers as studied photoluminescence studies increase surface area Brunauer-Emmett-Teller is detail varying loading, dye concentration rate constant determined first order kinetics. activity validated principles density functional theory (DFT) calculations which enrichment states thereby decreasing work function.
